About Locks on Selected Fields

  1. The closed-lock icon in a field means that the data in that field are protected against changes that may occur elsewhere in the Vault. Note that locks apply to properties of standard titles, not to those of individual Catalog records.
  2. Inversely, the open-lock icon means that information in that field can be affected by user actions in the Vault.
  3. Any user can unlock and lock fields that carry a lock icon, and eventually users will be able to edit information on this page directly. These features will be implemented in a future stage of Vault development.
  4. Locks are particularly important on the fields for director and standard theatrical release date, because these fields are used as suffixes to standard titles. Those suffixes help distinguish between standard titles that differ, when, without a suffix, they are the same.
  5. If all records for a standard title are added to Purgatory, all locks for that standard title are released, since the title is no longer in the Vault.
  6. Once a user judges the content of a field to be correct, the field should be locked.
  7. The actions of locking and unlocking a field are logged, along with the user's name.
